    About this paper

    Octagon graph paper

This pattern is the truncated square tiling: each regular octagon shares its top, bottom and side edges with a neighbor, and the diagonal edges frame small squares turned 45°. It is the classic layout of octagon-and-dot floor tiles.

The spacing sets the width of each octagon across its flat sides. Each octagon borders four octagons and four small squares, which makes the grid a neat alternative to squares and hexes for game boards.

    Frequently asked questions

Why are there small squares between the octagons?

Regular octagons cannot tile a flat surface on their own. Two octagons and one square meet at every corner (135° + 135° + 90° = 360°).

How do I make sure the grid prints at the right size?

In the print dialog choose “Actual size”, “100%” or “No scaling”, and turn off “Fit to page” or “Shrink to fit”. To confirm, print our free calibration test sheet and measure the 10 cm line with a ruler.

Is it free for commercial use?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no download limit. You can use the paper for classes, worksheets, products and client work.
